‘Monótono’ is that breaking point — when you love someone but you’re too drained to keep fighting. I wanted it to sound like emotional burnout, like a cycle that keeps repeating until you finally walk away.
On June 16, 2024, Chilean artist Sery released “Monótono”, the second track of her conceptual EP La Maldición del Ángel. Featuring Edú, the song dives into the emotional exhaustion of a relationship that has become toxic and repetitive.
Built on an electronic beat with church-like bells and heavy atmosphere, Monótono continues the sonic world introduced by Círculo Vicioso — using the same opening sample to connect both songs in a loop of heartbreak and self-realization.
With raw lyrics and a dark yet vulnerable tone, Monótono portrays the moment when love fades, when clarity and self-healing take the place of attachment.
Monótono was born as a continuation of Círculo Vicioso. Both songs mirror each other — one exposes the chaos of being trapped in a cycle, and the other captures the quiet collapse that follows.
It reflects the emotional burnout of loving within toxicity: wanting to fix what’s broken while realizing the only way to heal is to let go.
For Sery, it also marks a transition inside La Maldición del Ángel: from confrontation to reflection, from pain to self-awareness.
